    Franconia Color Run 5K – July 2016

Our family is returning from vacation in Franconia, New Hampshire. No resorts and spas for this group, although we did visit Santa’s Village.

For the most part, we spent the time hiking with an aim at “bagging” 4,000 footers, cooking on the campfire, and running.

Franconia Recreation Department holds an annual 4th of July 5K (use to be a 10K), and since I started running, it’s become a highlight of the vacation. The run is your typical small town run, no chips and a small field of runners, but I LOVE THE RUN!

This winter and spring I was dealing with lingering running injuries (Plantar fasciitis and hip pain) and I’ve been desperately looking forward to some decent, injury free running this summer. Over the past month, I’ve been noticing slow and steady improvements although the pain is not entirely gone the runs are much more enjoyable.

While I did not beat my previous course time I felt great and came in sixth place overall, not too shabby! My wife did an excellent as well. Did I mention the benefits of a small field of runners?

Small town run also allowed my two boys to get recruited to help throw “color” at the finish line, the whole family had an awesome time. Enjoying the running journey – July 2016

  • Reached 5-mile running goal

The following is a Facebook post following my run on August 29th:

I was SOOO close to talking myself out of running tonight…I was too tired, had a headache, it was getting dark, stuck in traffic. Anyway I decided to give it a shot. My best run ever! I set a personal goal to get my long distance up to 5miles (I don’t think I’ve EVER run 5 miles before). I finally broke that wall and got into a mode where I felt I could run forever.

No music…About a 1/4mile into the run I randomly took my earbuds out (@Jeff Mutter style according to Jenny Copans) for the fun of it and just kept going.

Sorry for the long post, but I finally feel like I’m making progress. Thanks to all for the positive feedback and motivation.

  • April 2, 2012 – New 5K Personal Best

April 2, 2012 5K - New Personal Best4/2/12 – I was sick over the weekend, fighting something that was giving me a headache and major head congestion.  I certainly didn’t feel like going to the gym today, but decided to give it a shot…turn out to be a great idea.  I fought through it and felt better once I hopped on the treadmill.

To my surprise, I was able to bump up the speed and maintain a 9min 20sec mile.  29min 5K, a new personal best.  That saying is true, the “hardest part of working out is actually getting inside the gym.”

    3.1 Miles = 29:00min

I also walked another 3o minutes after the 5K, the extra 2 miles helped add a few steps for my ShapeUpRI challenge.

    Total Steps Today = 14,480
